Our Preparation for Life (PFL) programmes enable learners who have learning disabilities to develop the skills they need to participate as citizens within the community and, where possible, the workplace. As our fastest growing area of provision, PFL is continuously developing exciting new opportunities and programme content.

What do the qualifications provide?

Learners working at Entry Level 1 and Entry Level 2 complete a range of units designed to aid personal and social progression. You can gain an award, certificate or diploma depending on the number of credits gained.

Learners working at Entry Level 3 will complete two mandatory units and additional credits from the remaining units from the Personal Progression through Practical Work Skills unit.

City and Guilds Certificate In Personal Progress - Entry Level 1

This is an exciting project based course.

You will improve your essential personal, social and practical skills in a range of exciting projects such as running a café, taking part in a performance and looking after small animals. You will also develop skills for daily life, within the College and the local community. You will increase your confidence and take more responsibility for your own learning.

Learners can progress to achieve this qualification at a higher level, or to study on a vocational course. You might also progress to live with greater independence.

Award and Certificate in Personal and Social Development - Entry Level 2

Here you can extend your abilities towards functional skills for more independent living. The course complements the projects currently running in PFL and empowers you to make free choice.

City and Guilds Certificate In Personal Progression Through Employment - Entry Level 3

This is a very practical course to prepare you for the world of work. You will learn how to apply for jobs and participate in interviews. You will also learn about roles and responsibilities at work through practical work based activities and have the opportunity to experience a real work environment. You can progress from Entry Level 3 to Level 1 qualifications or into work.
