The All Formats Charter

Queen Alexandra College (QAC) has commissioned the ALL FORMATS CHARTER. We are a national charity for people who are blind or vision impaired. We have over 100 years experience of helping people with visual impairment. The ALL FORMATS CHARTER is the next step in helping more individuals to receive a better standard of service from organisations throughout the UK.

The current estimate of the number of people in the UK who have a visual impairment is over 2 million. This means that individuals often cannot read standard size documents, for example, insurance papers, bank statements or promotional literature. These people need information in different formats such as Braille, large print and audio. In addition, they may have difficulty reading signs at your premises unless the signage has been suitably modified.

The ALL FORMATS CHARTER was set up in response to feedback from visually impaired people that all too often they cannot obtain the information that they need, in a format that they can access. QAC realised that many organisations were not aware of their obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act, and therefore the Charter was launched in September 2007.
