QAC Sight Village Exhibitor Details

Association of Scottish Talking Newspapers

ASTN is a Scottish Charity, run by volunteers and funded entirely by donations.

Our main objective is to help people who can't read newspapers and magazines, whether due to visual impairment or some disability, which makes reading a strain. To achieve this aim, we offer guidance and training to the Scottish Talking Newspapers.

There are around 70 Talking Newspapers in Scotland, some of them also producing Talking Magazines. Most are run by volunteers and several are Scottish Charities.

ASTN keeps Scottish TN organisers aware of new legislation and technology. We arrange specialised training such as technical workshops and reader workshops.

The annual Scottish conference offers an opportunity to organisers and volunteers from around the country to meet, share ideas and problems and learn from one another. Listeners are encouraged to come along and meet the "people behind the voices" and, most importantly, give advice so that our service is tailored to meet their needs.

For more information, visit our website or our stand at Sight Village in Edinburgh in 02 and 03 March 2010.
