Public Transport

Travelling by Train

Queen Alexandra College is delighted to confirm that there will be a limited shuttle service to Sight Village Central venue; Cranmore Park, Solihull for passengers travelling by rail via Birmingham New Street Station.

There will not be an advertised timetable and our drivers will depart from New Street Station when there are sufficient numbers on board.  If there is no bus available for departure to the venue at the time of your arrival, we would strongly recommend that you taxi share with others to avoid a potentially lengthy waiting time.  We have spoken to TOA Taxis (BLACK CABS) who are aware of this event and have suggested an approximate cost of £20 to the venue.

We are working closely with Network Rail who will be providing volunteers at New Street Station on both days of the event and they will be available to anyone requiring assistance for their onward travel. Network Rail volunteers will be situated in the Assistive Travel Lounge opposite Platform 4 and WHSmith – they can be identified by their pink Hi-Vis jackets. Network Rail volunteers will also be available to assist you to the taxi rank or QAC shuttle bus.

Our drivers and vehicles are required early morning and afternoon for our student transport therefore, we are only able to offer a one-way shuttle service. We anticipate that this will cease around approximately 1pm. There will be the opportunity for visitors to taxi share on their return journey to the station.

Seats are not pre-bookable and availability is on a first come first served basis.

Please note that this service is provided by us free of charge however, as a registered charity any donations would be gratefully received.

A quick note on alternative routes:

* You can get trains from Birmingham City Centre to Solihull or Shirley Stations and take a taxi to the venue from either of those.

We will provide guides at Birmingham New Street Station and of course, you can book travel assistance for some or all or your journey via the usual methods.

What the students say

There's always plenty to do at QAC. I really enjoy my programme and the work involved, but also the opportunities for fun activities and socialising.
