South Yorkshire Visually Impaired Tennis Club

The Lawn Tennis Association's (LTA) Open Court Programme is a nationwide initiative that actively promotes tennis opportunities for disabled individuals. This programme supports clubs, parks, communities, and educational institutions, as well as coaches who share the LTA's vision of making tennis accessible to all.  The LTA Open Court Programme provides support to South Yorkshire Visually Impaired Tennis Club (SYVITC) who facilitate tennis sessions for visually impaired adults in South Yorkshire and beyond.

Representing SYVITC, Janiece Wallace, Club Secretary, is an LTA Yorkshire award winner and a member of the LTA Disability Advisory Group. Alongside her, Ben Howarth, an award-winning Level IV tennis coach and the Yorkshire Open Court Disability and Inclusion Lead, spearheads the highly successful Ability Tennis Programme in Sheffield. Together, Janiece and Ben aim to expand the sport within the visually impaired community across Yorkshire and are planning to launch a Yorkshire Visually Impaired Tennis League.

They firmly believe that participating in recreational sports, like tennis, not only improves physical health but also enhances social and mental well-being.
