How The Railways Are Becoming More Accessible. The rail industry aims to create a simpler, better railway for everyone in Britain that is inclusive and accessible for all. During this session, customers will hear about the different products/initiatives the rail industry provides that supports and empowers customers to travel safely and with confidence. This includes how the rail industry is working to make an inclusive railway; the industry's Passenger Assist service (pre-booked and turn-up-and-go) and additional helpful hints and tips when making a journey by rail!

Pakflatt's mission is to enable all citizens to vote independently!

Pakflatt's mission is to enable all citizens to vote independently, in secret and with confidence. They will deliver a presentation showcasing how their patented McGonagle® Reader audio and touch navigation system (MGR) can transform the experience of voters, including those who have never felt able to vote before. Widely tested and proven with blind and partially sighted people, the MGR achieved a 93% success rate in tests by the RNIB. It has also been tested successfully with others including adult literacy groups, people who can speak but cannot read English text and individuals with neurodiversity.

Sport After Sight Loss: Opportunities for Visually Impaired People to Be Physically Active

The seminar will address the barriers and myths about participating in sport and physical activity with a visual impairment. It will discuss the options available for all ages, activity and experience levels. We will give a brief overview of British Blind Sport and our project to increase and improve inclusive opportunities for people with visual impairments in the Birmingham area. The seminar is aimed at individuals who are interested in becoming more active or taking up a new sport.

Ban the Ipad? exploring how we prepare young VI people for a future of employment

In an increasingly competitive job market, youth unemployment is at a modern time high, and the picture of the future is looking bleak. When you throw into the mix additional barriers such as sight loss, it is essential that we act today in preparing young VI people for the world of employment. In the seminar we are exploring the concept of work readiness and looking at the tools that we can equip young people with to successfully manage the transition from education into employment. Topics include technology, self-advocacy, career planning, and disability positive opportunities.

From Foundations to Innovation: QAC's Work in the Disability and Visual Impairment sphere.

This session will explore Queen Alexandra Charity's rich history in supporting young people with visual impairments, learning difficulties and disabilities. From our origins through the establishment of the General Institution for the Blind in 1847 to the modern day. We will explore our specialist service areas which include: education, community services and residential services as well as enterprises which have developed following our expertise in the field of visual impairment. We will then look towards to the future of the charity and opportunities for engagement and collaboration.
