Spotlight on Safety – SOS Talk with VI Safety

We're thrilled and excited to have VI Safety's multi-award-winning Spotlight on Safety (SOS) Talks returning to SIGHT Village London. With a crime occurring every five seconds in the UK, many blind and partially sighted people feel anxious about personal safety. This high-impact session tackles those fears head-on with practical strategies, solutions, and real-life scenarios to help attendees stay safe and avoid becoming victims of crime. Led by Andrew Palmer, founder of VI Safety, motivational speaker, radio presenter, and one of this year's event sponsors, this fun, fast-paced, and empowering seminar will leave participants feeling confident, informed, and in control. Whether you're blind or partially sighted, an eye clinic liaison officer, mobility instructor, rehabilitation worker, or sector professional, this is one of the most important sessions you'll attend this year. Expect lively demonstrations of innovative apps, accessories, products, services, and resources, plus our infamous SOS Q&A session where the team answer safety questions live. Extra volunteers will be on hand to help anyone who needs assistance locating a seat. To get the most from this session, please arrive promptly as we will be starting on time. 'Making Rail Travel Inclusive for All'

The rail industry aims to create a simpler, better railway for everyone in Britain that is inclusive and accessible for all. Dominic, Natasha and Chris will talk customers through the different products/initiatives their organisation provides that support and empower the customer to travel safely and with confidence. Writing Your Wellbeing - Incorporating essential oils and sensory exercises

Incorporating essential oils and sensory exercises, this unique seminar offers the chance to experience sensory creative writing and promote wellbeing for people with visual impairment. Research has shown that creative writing can have a positive impact on mental and emotional health. In 2022, Writing Your Wellbeing developed and launched their first sensory self-help creative writing pack aimed at tackling anxiety and depression. They followed this with sensory creative writing packs to help people with trauma, grief, loss, and stress. In 2024, the packs were further developed to make them available in Braille, alternative text, and audio versions.

Dave Heeley is an extraordinary English athlete, fundraiser, and motivational speaker from West Bromwich. In 2020, he was awarded an OBE DL for his services to charitable fundraising. Over his career, he has raised more than Ł3 million for charities including Macmillan Cancer Support, the Marathon des Sables, and The Albion Foundation. A passionate advocate for accessibility and inclusion, Dave frequently delivers talks to schools, businesses, and community groups. Dave will be sharing inspirational stories from his time as a student at QAC to his remarkable achievements and charitable work.

Stargardt's Connected :  Meta Ray Ban AI Functionality for VI people 

Stargardt's Connected is a charity supporting those affected by Stargardt Disease. It is an inherited retinal condition causing progressive central vision loss. UV light is believed to speed up the progression of Stargardt's, and therefore it is recommended that those affected wear sunglasses all year round. A representative from Meta Ray Ban U.K. will be joining the Stargardt's Connected Seminar Session to talk about the Meta Ray Ban Sunglasses Gen 1 and Gen 2. They will be demonstrating the different AI functions and how they might support someone with VI. There will be opportunities for question and answer in the Seminar. The Meta Ray Ban representative will be joining Stargardt's Connected at their Charity Stand after the session, where there will be an opportunity to try the Meta Ray Ban glasses in demo mode and ask further questions.

Pakflatt's mission is to enable all citizens to vote independently!

Pakflatt's mission is to enable all citizens to vote independently, in secret and with confidence. They will deliver a presentation showcasing how their patented McGonagle® Reader audio and touch navigation system (MGR) can transform the experience of voters, including those who have never felt able to vote before. Widely tested and proven with blind and partially sighted people, the MGR achieved a 93% success rate in tests by the RNIB. It has also been tested successfully with others including adult literacy groups, people who can speak but cannot read English text and individuals with neurodiversity.
