Functional Skills and GCSE in English & Maths

Students working in the Library and Classroom
Most students will work towards functional skills or Stepping Stone qualifications.

Students who have a Level 2 in English and Maths or those who have a grade D (or equivalent 3/4) at GCSE in these subjects will take a GCSE.

Functional skills are the fundamental applied skills in English, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Mathematics to help people gain the most from life, learning and work.

Stepping Stones in English and Maths are focused on targeted areas or 'knowledge gaps'.

Qualifications are available in English, ICT and Mathematics at Entry 1, Entry 2, Entry 3, Level 1 and Level 2.

Each qualification is assessed and verified independently.
