OCR Level 2 Cambridge Technicals in Digital Media

Programme outline 

This is a vocational qualification designed for learners who wish to develop practical skills for the media industry through coursework and mandatory units as well as exam-based assessments. Skills developed within the suite include technical proficiency in software, project planning, communication, and client-focused creativity.

Key Units  

Unit 1: Digital Media and Emerging Technologies – An externally assessed unit focusing on the impact of digital media and how it is consumed. 

Unit 2: Principles of Concept Design and Pre-production – An externally assessed unit covering planning, storyboarding, and pre-production techniques. 

Unit 3: Create a Media Product – An internally assessed unit where students carry out pre-production, production, and post-production for an original media product. 

Unit 7: Journalism and the News Industry – An optional unit focusing on news production and industry practices.  

Entry Requirements 

Students looking for a practical, work-related qualification 

Students looking to go into further/higher education 

Typically requires GCSEs at grade 4 or above in Maths and English or working towards this. 

Desirable - Level 2 qualification in a relevant subject. 

Progression 

This qualification is structured to facilitate two primary progression pathways:  

Further Education (Level 3): This higher-level qualification is equivalent to A Levels  

Employment: The course prepares learners for entry-level "skilled employment" roles in the digital sector by teaching industry-standard skills such as planning media products and pitching ideas. 

Equivalent to GCSE 

L2 Certificate - equivalent to 1 GCSE. 

L2 Diploma - equivalent to 2 GCSEs. 

Grading 

Grades are awarded as Pass, Merit, Distinction, or Distinction*.
