LEAP Animal Care students completed a short-term work placement at the Exotic Zoo in Telford. Over the course of three weeks, students had the opportunity to practise their animal handling skills and take part in a range of zookeeping tasks, including preparing feeds, feeding animals, mucking out enclosures, and creating enrichment activities.

This work placement provided students with valuable experience of working with a wider range of species, including exotics. It enabled them to broaden their skills and apply their learning to real-world practice in a professional work environment. Throughout the placement, students developed their teamwork and observation skills and gained a deeper understanding of the commitment required to work with animals on a daily basis.

Dan K, who aspires to become a zookeeper, said, “This has been the best day ever — I feel quite emotional.”
