Welcome to governance
Thank you for your interest in governing with Queen Alexandra Charity, Birmingham, where the charity trustees, the directors of QAC Enterprises Limited (our trading subsidiary) and the governance team that supports them aspire to practise the highest standards of governance.
In doing so, our trustees, committee co-optees and subsidiary directors operate within an environment that is regulated by company, charity, education and care law and where national guidance either applies to us, or we choose to apply it to ourselves. We also operate under the Charity Code of Governance. All of this means that our governing teams in the charity and in QAC Enterprises Limited have a demanding role not only in setting our strategic direction, but in the safeguarding of our students and clients, in the stewardship of funds (most of which derives from public sector local authorities) and in the oversight of standards of delivery. As the employer, trustees collectively also have significant responsibilities for our 450 staff.
We appreciate that there are a great many governing opportunities out there. But, with us, your time would influence outcomes across a range of provision and we would do all that we can to support you.
If a trustee role requires more time that you can offer, do please consider putting yourself forward as a committee co-optee or subsidiary director. While still needing expertise, the breadth of duties is narrower and so the time commitment is less.
I do hope you will find these pages helpful and, if we look like a good fit, that you will visit us to help decide whether to apply to become a charity trustee, committee co-optee or subsidiary director.
Paul Walker, Director of Governance
