Bev Jessop, Principal and Chief Executive, presents an award to a student

As Principal and Chief Executive, I am very happy to welcome you to Queen Alexandra Charity, supporting a diverse range of student and client abilities and needs, where we provide an innovative, holistic approach to learning and support.  We encourage, further development and celebrate the positives that we discover in everyone.

Our diverse range of study programmes is tailored to ensure that each student receives the educational, therapeutic and support services that they require, helping them to achieve their aspirations for adult life. They may study at our main campus, our Pinewood campus (dedicated to employment progression) or our Umberslade campus (dedicated to horticulture and outdoor learning) or a combination of these.

I encourage you to look at our outcome data to see how well our students achieve.

The ethos and culture at QAC are underpinned by the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion and we are proud to have achieved and retain accreditation in Investors in People (Silver). We were awarded the prestigious Leaders in Diversity award in November 2021 and continue on our journey to be even better leaders in diversity.

Vistors to QAC experience a friendly, safe, respectful environment and positive atmosphere.  All of us at QAC work hard to ensure our charity is one in which our students, clients and staff can feel secure, grow in confidence and be the best version of themselves.

At QAC, we have high expectations of our students, clients and staff.  We aim to make their experience outstanding and we will challenge them, constructively, to be the very best that they can be.

Although the journey into adult life can be challenging for many, at QAC we are positive about the future for our young people. I will ensure that all people across the wider charity will work hard to provide you an excellent service, collaborating with others and developing the QAC brand so that more people can benefit from what we offer in the fields of education, independence, diversity, positive behaviour support, community and residential services.

Please do come along and visit us for yourselves and find out more about our charity. Visits can be arranged by calling 0121 428 5050.

QAC - Empowering Abilities, Inspiring Lives!

Director of Governance

Thank you for your interest in governing with Queen Alexandra Charity, Birmingham, where the charity trustees, the directors of QAC Enterprises Limited (our trading subsidiary) and the governance team that supports them aspire to practise the highest standards of governance.

In doing so, our trustees, committee co-optees and subsidiary directors operate within an environment that is regulated by company, charity, education and care law and where national guidance either applies to us, or we choose to apply it to ourselves.  We also operate under the Charity Code of Governance.  All of this means that our governing teams in the charity and in QAC Enterprises Limited have a demanding role not only in setting our strategic direction, but in the safeguarding of our students and clients, in the stewardship of funds (most of which derives from public sector local authorities) and in the oversight of standards of delivery.  As the employer, trustees collectively also have significant responsibilities for our 450 staff.

We appreciate that there are a great many governing opportunities out there.  But, with us, your time would influence outcomes across a range of provision and we would do all that we can to support you.

If a trustee role requires more time that you can offer, do please consider putting yourself forward as a committee co-optee or subsidiary director.  While still needing expertise, the breadth of duties is narrower and so the time commitment is less.

I do hope you will find these pages helpful and, if we look like a good fit, that you will visit us to help decide whether to apply to become a charity trustee, committee co-optee or subsidiary director.
