Asssitive Tech supporting QAC to develop Independence for College students
As part of #ThePowerofSpecialistFE, we are shining a light on our Assistive Technology department, which provides QA College students with the right technology to support them during their time at QAc and to help them develop their independence.
Read below some testimonials from students who use assistive tech during their day-to-day:

Shaan (HSC): "Assistive technology supports me with productivity, making sure I can meet my deadline in my HSC course. The Dictate feature in Microsoft 365 allows me to work at a faster pace than usual. My computer is also configured with accessibility settings, such as a larger display. The assistive mouse provided helps with my grip issues due to my cerebral palsy. Accessibility is one of my key priorities. The Assistive Technology Department at QAC helped me get the right support I need"

Jacob (LEAP Care): "I was very excited to come to QAC. My mother showed me the facilities on the QAC website, and they looked really good. QAC is different to other places because of the amount of support you get. Staff are very supportive and patient. Before coming to QAC, I didn't know that you could change the accessibility settings on a PC or use different keyboards and mouse devices. Assistive Technology is helping me with my speed. Before using assistive technology, it took me a very long time to type a piece of work. The equipment Fatima provided helps me to be independent, and my coursework is easier to complete. I didn't have many friendships before QAC, and now I feel more comfortable because there are more people like me at college, using special equipment or using a wheelchair. If I hadn't been to QAC, my life would have probably been different. It would have been harder and more stressful to progress with my life. "

Rohan (IT): "My first impression when I arrived at QAC was 'wow, this place is massive in comparison with my previous school!'. I was impressed by the number of different departments at this college. My previous school didn't have an Assistive Technology Department. Fatima helped me by providing an assistive keyboard that suits my typing needs. She also helped me to replicate my normal way of working, which involves a second monitor. The Night Light built-in feature from Windows 11 that Fatima showed me helps me with my eye strain, reducing eye fatigue."
