The voices behind the QAC radio advert
Shakur:
I am studying performing arts and I like connecting with staff, friends, LSAs, and being part of something so special. Ever since I was a kid the world of showbiz has been so special to me and I wanted to go on a journey to become someone completely different (through acting). It’s been a really incredible experience, and I’ve had the most incredible time which I’ll cherish in the years to come. Seeing how everyone is so respectful and welcoming at QAC is heartwarming.
The overall environment is fantastic and I’ve never seen another college like it. Over the 3 years I have been here it has given me a huge insight into how I can use skills after the college, and inspired me to go out into the real world and be successful. I’ve got so much more to give in this world and I want to put myself out there.
I felt inspired and motivated to give something a try for the first time and give something new a shot. It felt like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity I would not want to miss out on. I enjoyed the experience of having my voice on radio for the first time and expanding my knowledge on what it’s like to be in the world of broadcasting.
I think a quiz, or a game show night with bingo and stuff. Or a baking competition, or maybe even a music or karaoke competition! A big event would be cool. A new (medical and) therapies centre would help the college be more inclusive for people who need it, so they can go out there and enjoy whatever makes them happy.

Raybond:
I am studying Creative Media and doing the animation on Procreate is the best thing about it. At QAC I have gained good experience in different opportunities e.g. hand-drawn stories where I’m learning to do 3D animation and in the Film Festival and, in the Beetlejuice performance, I was the camera operator, recording what’s occurring during the performances and festivals.
Recording for the radio was a valuable experience, because it shows your determination skills, voice projecting skills etc. I wanted to do it to practice my voice acting skills and to make friends.
If i was to fundraise, I would host a martial arts class to raise some money and, not only that, but also a food sale where they would reduce food waste by giving people food there and food to take home as well. I think a new health centre would be good because some students might need some extra support dealing with a moderate/high level of anxiety.
Millie:
I am studying Health and Social Care Level 2, I think my favourite part about it is meeting new people/friends and doing work experience which I haven’t had yet but hoping to in a couple of weeks after easter.
I think the best thing about college is just having people to talk to and having support subjects/sessions like Mentoring, Travel Training (RATTS) AND Speech and Language. I just wanted to give (recording for the radio advert) a go as I thought it would be good to get my voice out there and thought it would build my confidence even more. I’ve never done something like that before. Also, I think it’s a good idea to advertise it as other people will be able to listen and may consider coming here as a student or staff in the future.
I think hosting a cake sale is a good idea as it is a treat for everyone, but it will also help raise money. A new medical and therapies centre will be a lot easier to get to for the students and staff (especially new people) as its just in one building and not in multiple buildings around college and they won’t have to worry about getting lost.

Harvey:
I study Performing Arts and I like it because I’ve always been passionate about performing on stage and acting, and I really wanted the opportunity to meet new people, make new friends and build my confidence.
The best thing about QAC is the support I’ve gotten from LSAs and staff who helped me step out of my comfort zone. I also like meeting people similar to me, learning new things, and becoming the best version of myself.
QAC has helped me with my confidence and helped me to feel able to express myself. I’ve always wanted to be a voice actor or narrator eventually, and recording the advert was an opportunity to do something like that for myself. I think it was valuable to promote the college because it’s a very supportive environment to be in.
I think a sponsored skydive would be fun to raise money. I do speech and language therapy and it would be nice for that to be in the same place as other medical facilities.

Alex:
I am on the Health and Social Care course working towards a level 3 extended certificate. I truly feel the best part of the course is the sheer amount of support I’ve had through my time working towards my goal, all the staff are open to help with any questions or concerns I have with my work. QAC has drastically benefitted me, especially given I started here as a quiet, antisocial teenager who planned to come, do work and leave. Nowadays, I have grown into a social young adult who has been able to make friends, be open about who I am as well as support my friends as well.
The best thing truly is the amount of support and guidance I had from tutors, mentors and my peers to bring me up to a point where I feel comfortable. I wanted to get people to hear about QAC from people who have experienced it. I’ve always liked the idea of voice acting and getting my voice out there, so to be given the chance at a college that I’m comfortable at is great. I enjoyed being able to put my voice out there for a college that has done so much for me already, because people have preconceived notions about disabilities so it shows them “these people are working towards a “proper” future. I feel like having a sponsored, inclusive walk could be an amazing fundraiser.
We could have a variety of people both with and without additional needs go out for a walk around the community to fundraise. I believe that having a new centre on campus for medical and therapy would lead to students feeling more comfortable traversing for their counselling, receiving their medication and confining in mentors. This could be due to the idea that they may have medical, counselling and mentoring all under the same roof rather than having them scattered out on complete opposite sides of campus.
