QAC Students visit Art Gallery

On Thursday 2 July, vision-impaired students from our college independently planned and organised a visit to Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. They met with two museum curators to take part in an audio-described tour.

The focus of the session was the Pre-Raphaelite collection, including works associated with Birmingham-born artist John Everett Millais. Students explored the artist's history, the social and cultural context of the period, and the themes represented in the paintings.

The experience also helped them learn how to independently organise and access future visits to exhibitions and cultural events of interest. After the tour, students participated in a hands-on tactile session exploring objects linked to the artworks to deepen their understanding through touch.

This additional learning experience provided valuable multi-sensory engagement and reinforced key ideas from the gallery visit. The students demonstrated strong independence, confidence and engagement throughout the planning and participation of the trip itinerary experience.
