QAC Alumni: #ThePowerofSpecialistFE

As part of our ongoing celebration of #ThePowerofSpecialistFE, we have been sharing the inspiring stories of former QAC students whose journeys highlight the lasting impact of specialist education. This week, we are proud to highlight the experiences and growth of Janay, Zachary and Josh, who share how their time at QAC helped shape their confidence, independence, and future.

Janay’s Journey: From QAC to Community Services

Janay, a former Preparation for Life student who now attends our Community Services Provision, shared how both her time at QAC and the ongoing support she receives today have helped her grow:

“I got to learn life skills and independent living skills, travel training, learning how to clean up after myself while cooking. Now at Community Services, I enjoy hanging out with the other staff and clients. I get to plan out my own day and spend it with other clients and staff.”

Zachary: Building Skills for Supported Living

Earlier in the week, we highlighted Zachary, who shared how his time as a residential student prepared him for the transition into supported living after college:

“They were able to teach me how to be more social, how to manage my time better, and I got to learn many new skills along the way.”

Zachary’s journey shows how #SpecialistFE empowers students not only academically, but socially and emotionally, equipping them with the tools they need for independence and adulthood. We are incredibly proud of everything he has achieved so far.

Josh: From Supported Internship to Full-Time Employment

We also took a look back at the success of Josh, a former Supported Intern who secured full-time employment after completing his placement:

“I never knew I was going to get paid employment so early on, but when I was given the opportunity for a work placement at Latham’s, I used that opportunity to work hard with the hopes of getting paid employment.”

Josh’s determination and the structured support of the internship programme highlight what’s possible when young people are given the right opportunities.

These stories are a few of many powerful reminders of how #ThePowerofSpecialistFE changes lives and helps young people develop independence.
