Edgbaston Cricket Ground employee Visits QAC

This week, Thomas Cunningham-Smith from Edgbaston cricket ground visited staff and students.

Thomas is the County Safeguarding and Compliance Manager. The cricket ground has been working with the company Give Vision to provide visually impaired cricket spectators with a more inclusive experience of viewing cricket games.

They are working with Give Vision to provide all visually impaired spectators with a Give Vision headset, which will allow them to view the cricket match with magnification using the headset and a mobile device. They can magnify, watch in high definition, and use the mobile device to stream live viewing commentary that is shown in real time without delay/lagging.

The cricket ground is the first cricket ground in the world to use this technology and only the second venue in the UK after Crystal Palace football club.

The students/staff had the opportunity to use the headset, learn how to operate it and spend some time with Thomas learning how the cricket ground supports those with a disability.
The headsets are free of charge to loan during the match, along with a discounted ticket price and a free carers ticket.

The students enjoyed watching the promotional video discussing their needs with Thomas and were excited by the product.

Some of our students have already purchased tickets to see the cricket over the summer and are looking forward to a better viewing experience!
